DeSales Forms Partnership with St. Mary's University College, England
DeSales University has entered into a formal partnership with St. Mary's University College, Twickenham, England. The partnership agreement will provide an academic study abroad program for students from DeSales and for an exchange program for students from St. Mary's. It also will create opportunities for staff exchanges. The official Memorandum of Agreement was signed by senior administrators from both universities at a ceremony held at St. Mary's, during the spring 2008 semester.
Members of the DeSales delegation that visited St. Mary's included Fr Bernard O'Connor OSFS, DeSales President; Dr Karen Doyle Walton, provost and vice president for academic affairs; Jerry Joyce, vice president for student life; Father Peter Leonard OSFS, dean of graduate studies; Dr. Brian Kane, chairperson of the department of philosophy & theology; and Peter Rautzhan, vice president for administration and planning.
During the visit to St. Mary's, the DeSales group took a tour of the campus, had lunch in the Refectory and attended academic presentations. The day formally ended with the official signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between the universities, followed by dinner.
St. Mary's University College, founded in 1850, has a long and distinguished history as a Catholic college for the education of teachers. Its mission is "to provide high-quality academic and professional higher education within a collegial ethos inspired and sustained by Christian values." Currently, St. Mary's has more than 3,800 students, including approximately 3,200 full-time students and 600 part-time students.
