Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales to Host Discussion on Faith and Politics
The Salesian Center for Faith and Culture at DeSales University will host a Center Valley Forum, at 7 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, in the White Pavilion of the University Center at DeSales University.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is titled "Believers in the Booth: Does Religion Have a Role in the 2008 Election."
"This is not an issues-based discussion, rather, a discussion about the extent to which religious beliefs should or should not inform how people vote," said Father Thomas Dailey, OSFS, director of the Salesian Center.
Panelists include: Janice Rael, president of the Delaware Valley Chapter of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, Ken Briggs, former religion editor of the New York Times and a faculty member at Lafayette College as well as Andrew Essig, assistant professor of political science at DeSales and Larry Meo, DeSales student and president of the DSU Pro-Life Club. Panelists will each take several minutes to present their viewpoint on the topic followed by an audience question and answer period.
Center Valley Forum is a regularly scheduled series on a current topic of social controversy. The purpose of this series is to examine public issues and concerns of interest to the Lehigh Valley community, particularly as they impact our culture in law and society, science and healthcare, communications and media, commerce and finance, and religion and faith.
Established in 2000, the Salesian Center for Faith and Culture promotes the interaction of faith and culture through academic initiatives that focus on the authentic integration of social concerns and gospel values.
