New Full-Time DeSales Faculty Include Scholars in Business, Criminal Justice, Language, Fine Arts, Nursing, Philosophy/Theology and TV/Film

Nine new full-time faculty members joined DeSales for the 2008-2009 academic year. The appointments were announced by Dr. Karen Walton, provost and vice president for academic affair. Their scholarly interests range from business, criminal justice, language and fine arts, to nursing, philosophy / theology and TV / Film. Also this year, DeSales welcomes the first full-time executive-in-residence in business at the University.

The new faculty members include:

Assistant Professors

Dr. Maria Cristina Campos Fuentes, of Mexico City, Mexico, in the department of humanities.  Fuentes earned a master's degree in Spanish and a doctorate in modern foreign language from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.  She currently resides in Doylestown, Pa.

Dr. Marc Gherardi, of Washington, D.C., who returned to DeSales and is teaching in the department of social sciences.  Gherardi earned a bachelor's degree in economics and political science from St. Joseph's University and a juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Also, Gherardi, a member of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales, was recently ordained in the priesthood.  He currently resides in Center Valley, Pa.

Dr. Maura Hearden, of Waupun, Wis., in the department of philosophy/theology.  Hearden earned a bachelor's degree in musical theater from the University of Wisconsin, a master's degree in theater from the University of Florida, a master's degree in theology and a doctorate in religious studies from Marquette University. She currently resides in Emmaus, Pa.

Mishele Mennett, of Palm Beach, Fla., in the department of performing and fine Arts.  Mennett earned a bachelor's degree in dance from East Carolina University and a master's degree in dance from Florida State University. She currently resides in Coopersburg, Pa.

Dr. Hongbum Shin, of Seoul, Korea, in the department of business.  Shin earned a bachelor's degree in sport and leisure study from Myongji University, a master's degree in kinesiology from Illinois State University, and a doctorate in health, physical education, and recreation from the University of New Mexico.  He currently resides in Breinigsville, Pa.

Jennifer Suwak, of Toms River, N.J., who has served on the DeSales faculty previously, is teaching in the department of social sciences.  Suwak earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Upsala College and a master's degree in video from Rutgers University. Suwak has been serving as a faculty member in the TV / Film program at DeSales.  She currently resides in Bangor, Pa.

Instructors

Deborah Auerbach, of Shreveport, La., in the department of nursing and health.  Auerbach earned a bachelor's degree in sociology from Louisiana State University, a bachelor's degree in nursing from Northwestern State University, and a master's degree in nursing from the University of Pennsylvania.  She currently resides in Easton, Pa.

David Seip, of Allentown Pa, in the department of social sciences.  Seip earned a bachelor's degree in administration of justice from Pennsylvania State University and a master's degree in criminal justice from St. Joseph's University.  He currently resides in Allentown, Pa.

Executive-in-Residence

Samuel Torrence, born in Four States, W.Va., and raised in Canton, Ohio, in the department of business. This is the first full-time executive-in-residence position at DeSales. Torrence earned a bachelor's degree in industrial administration from Kettering University and a juris doctor degree from Georgetown University Law Center.  He currently resides in Center Valley, Pa.
