|Christian Veterinary Mission to Honduras, Focus of Brown Bag Lunch Program, Fri., Nov. 7
A Christian Veterinary Mission to Honduras will be the focus of a Brown Bag Lunch Program at noon, Friday, November 7, at DeSales. The featured speaker, Yvonne Shorb, of Coopersburg, served as a volunteer on several missionary trips. Shorb will be sharing the experiences of her friends, Dr. Scott and Diane Karper, at their missionary in Honduras. The program, which includes a Q&A session, is open to the public free of charge.
Shorb, the wife of a pastor in Coopersburg, has served on several mission trips around the world. Most recently, Shorb and her husband visited their personal friends, Dr. Scott and Diane Karper, at their missionary in Honduras.
The Karpers were sent to Honduras by the Christian Veterinary Mission to help the people of Guadalupe Carney, a village made up of families from all over Honduras, to teach them animal healthcare and earning income. Dr. Scott works with the people with their animal care problems and Diane works with the village women developing crafts which they then sell to earn money for food and other necessities
Shorb will focus on her experiences with the people of the village, specifically the lives, needs, and endurance of Honduran women. She will have examples of "Honduras Treasures," the art work the women sell for income, to display.
"I think it's appropriate to hear about their lives," says Shorb. "They really are treasures as you see how they live, and how they have grown and what they endure."
Trexler Library's Brown Bag Lunch Series was established in September 1999. The purpose of the series is to provide DeSales faculty, staff, and students, and occasionally guests from the community at large, an opportunity to share their research projects, personal interests, and hobbies in a public presentation, followed by a question and answer session.
