Wireless access is currently avaiable in the following areas:
- Dooling Hall
- Trexler Library
- University Center
- Hurd Science Center
- Campbell Hall
- Chappuis Hall (1st level)
- Billera Gym
- McShea Student Union
- Labuda Center
- Easton Campus
- Lansdale Campus
- Outside tables and benches of the Trexler Library and Dooling Hall
- In most residence halls, wireless access can be found in common areas
Where wireless service is available, students can logon to on-line courses, access library resources, research academic projects, send /receive email, and surf the Internet at speeds that exceed the typical 56Kbps dialup connections. No cables, no phone lines, no dialup, no ISP - just a wireless enabled computer and a valid DeSales email account. (Your email account ID and password authenticate your identity during the one-time registration process.)
Connecting to the Internet via the wireless network requires a notebook computer with an IEEE 802.11b or 802.11g compliant wireless network adapter. Almost all laptops (within the past 5 years) come equipped with a built-in wireless adapter as a feature. If not built-in, a wireless adapter can be purchased for your laptop's PCMCIA or USB slot. Adapters meeting the 802.11b standard are more readily available and are typically priced below 802.11.g models. Network adapters can be purchased at most electronics retailers, and of course, on campus at the DeSales University bookstore. |
