Juilene Osborne McKnight, M.F.A., is an assistant professor of English. She received her M.F.A. in Poetry and Creative Nonfiction from Carlow University Pittsburgh, with study in residence at Colaiste Naomh Padraig Ireland; her M.A. (Individualized) in Writing from the MacGregor School of Antioch University Ohio, specializing in Celtic and Native American storytelling, and her B.A./B.S. Summa Cum Laude from Youngstown State University, Ohio, in English/French/Secondary Education.
Her areas of specialty include Irish Mythology, Irish literature, Native American literature, creative writing fiction, and non-fiction. She coordinates the DeSales Irish academic study abroad program. Osborne-McKnight is the author of four Irish historical novels: I Am of Irelaunde, Daughter of Ireland, Bright Sword of Ireland, and Song of Ireland. Prior to writing fiction, she worked as a newspaper and magazine columnist and as a freelance writer. She has published more than two hundred articles, essays, and poems and her play Wild Swans of Ireland was staged for a month run.
Prior to teaching at DeSales, she has taught at Immaculata University in the Irish Studies program and in the M.F.A. programs of Rosemont College and Carlow University, as well as at Adrian College in Michigan. She is a traditional storyteller, in which capacity she performs and sings in English and Irish at hundreds of festivals and events throughout the United States and Ireland. She lives with her husband and daughter, a 2008 DeSales graduate. |
