DeSales Hosts 24th LVAIC Undergraduate Psychology Conference, Sat., April 18

(April 17, 2009) – DeSales University will host the 24th LVAIC (Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges) Undergraduate Psychology Conference on Saturday, April 18, in the DeSales University Center. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., followed by presentations at 9:00 a.m. The registration fee is $10.

The day’s program includes paper and poster sessions on a variety of areas in psychology, including clinical, biological, cognitive, personality and forensic. Topics include Anxiety & Test Taking: The Effect of Music on Anxiety, Lets Get Physical: Music and its Effect on Physical Endurance, The Effect of Color on Memory Recall of the Older Adults, Differences in Stereotypes and Knowledge of Mental Illness, Factors that Influence Balance Task Performance on Nintendo Wii, The Effect of Energy Drinks on Athletes, among others.

Also, there will be a formal welcome by Dr. Robert Blumenstein, DeSales University Dean of Undergraduate Education, followed by the keynote address from Dr. Katherine Ramsland, chairperson of the DeSales Department of Social Sciences, and renowned expert on forensics.

In her address, “The Psychologist and the Sleuth,” Ramsland will discuss the state of forensic psychology today, the way it’s being portrayed on TV, the current options for consulting, and her work with psychological autopsies, cold case investigations, linkage analysis, and occasional exhumation.

Among the schools participating are Arcadia University, Cedar Crest University, DeSales University, Lehigh University, Moravian College, Muhlenberg College, and Ursinus College. More than 250 students will be in attendance.
