Notes:

The PowerPoint presentation, EM-305E: Mail Room Counter-Terrorism Training, are the notes used in class. View the DVD, Mail Room Screening for Security (Marlowe Productions, 2006), at Slide #23.

The DVD, Mail Room Screening for Security, is 12 minutes long and well prepared. It gets right to the point and will be immediately helpful. All mailroom personnel are required to view it and it is recommended for everyone in the University Family.

The DVD, Safe to Open: an Introduction to Mail Center Security, is one hour+ and is a sure cure for sleeplessness; however the content is absolutely excellent. To make the material more digestible consider that there are 12 chapters which can be covered one or two at a time. For example you may show one each week for 12 weeks as part of the annual training program. Here is the list of chapters, each one covering an important topic?

  1. The Role of the Mail Center
  2. Mail Terrorism
  3. Postal Hazards
  4. Postal Bombs
  5. Non-Lethal Booby Traps
  6. Biological and Chemical Hazard
  7. Hate Mail Threats and Hoaxes
  8. Protecting the Mail Center
  9. Creating a Culture of Security
  10. Mail Screening
  11. XRAY Inspection
  12. Procedures and Responses
