Transfer courses to be taken at other institutions must be planned in advance. In particular, for summer courses, the approval form should be submitted prior to the conclusion of the spring semester.
Start by locating a course description(s) for the relevant course(s) in the other institution's online course catalog. Then, e-mail the course description(s), number of credits(s), course title(s), and course number(s) to the Director of Advising and Retention at scott.mattingly@desales.edu. Dr. Mattingly will determine if any of the proposed courses are transferrable, collaborating with academic departments and/or the Dean of Undergraduate Education as needed.
Once transferability is confirmed, the student must complete the appropriate section for proposed transfer courses on the Approval Form, obtain the appropriate signature(s), and submit the form to the Registrar's Office. Finally, at the conclusion of the course(s), be sure to have an official transcript sent from the credit-granting institution to the DeSales University Registrar's Office.
The transcript submitted to the Registrar's Office from the institution granting the credits must show that the student has earned a minimum grade of "C-" in order for the credit to be applied to the student's DSU transcript and graduation requirements. However, please note that only courses taken at an LVAIC member institution will be calculated into your GPA. For courses taken at any other institutions, students may receive credit, though there will be no impact on their GPA.
DeSales University has established agreements with several community colleges. You can view a course comparison list at each of these institutions by clicking here. These lists include many courses that have been pre-approved for transfer to DeSales. If you select one of these pre-approved courses, you can bypass many of the steps above and simply bring your approval form to the Academic Resource Center for Dr. Mattingly to sign.
